Tinseltown Dog Training FAQ’s
This page was created to answer some of our commonly asked questions! If you would like to speak with one of our behavior consultants about our Los Angeles dog training programs, please do not hesitate to call at 800.649.7297!
*Why do you train within the home?
In-home training is the most beneficial form of training for dogs suffering from behavioral issues such as aggression, anxiety, and leash reactivity and for dogs under sixteen weeks of age. We train them where they feel most comfortable, with one-on-one attention, and ease them into practicing their new behavior around distractions. In-home training also allows the owner to stay as involved as possible in the process.
If your dog is only in need of basic obedience training, our group classes may be the right choice for you.
*What type of credentials do you have?
All Tinseltown Dog Training trainers have completed a grueling certification course through Canine Trade Group, which totals over three hundred hours of combined coursework and practicum. Subjects covered are canine psychology, canine history, training theory, and training methods. Then we spend three weeks training rescue dogs.
*What breeds do you work with?
Every single one. We don’t believe in stereotyping dogs based on their breed.
*Will you work with aggressive dogs?
Absolutely. They probably need our help the most. We don’t run from a challenge, and we don’t see euthanasia or surrender as viable solutions.
Does everyone in the household need to be present for the in-home consultation?
Ideally, yes. Your dog will rely on consistency from everyone in the household, and that is a harder task to accomplish if someone is absent during the initial discussion.
*Should I get my puppy trained?
Absolutely. The sooner your dog starts learning what behavior is acceptable and what behavior is not, the better. You won’t have to be terribly strict with them because they’re young and eager to please, and you’ll start your relationship off on the right foot. A foundation of trust and respect is necessary when handling changes in personality and behavior as your dog ages, and hiring an in-home trainer will ensure you and your puppy experience proper bonding.
*What area do you serve?
We will travel approximately forty-five minutes from the Los Angeles area. If you’re not sure whether or not you’re included in this radius, please give us a call.
*What training methods do you use?
It always depends on the dog, which is why we perform an in-home consultation. It gives us an opportunity to get to know you and your dog and helps us design a training program especially for him or her. In general, however, we use various combinations of basic obedience training, proper leash handling techniques, strict scheduling, and unique positive reinforcement training.
